Terminal Multiplexer (tmux)

How to use multiple sessions at the same time

A crucial part of using Linux is the ability to switch between multiple terminal sessions within the same server. This allows you to run multiple commands at the same time, and disconnect from a session whilst a command is still running.

You can use tmux for this.

Simply run tmux, then you can type in a command, and detach using ctrl + b, d.

Now you are not attached, but the terminal session will continue to run in the background. To attach, simply run:

tmux attach

If you have multiple tmux sessions, to list them all you can run:

tmux list-all

If you want to connect to one of them, you can use the below - replacing id with the number of the terminal session you wish to connect to.

tmux attach -t id
